Itinerary for Portugal-Spain 2020 Travel Tour

Day 1 –  International Flight from the USA

Day 2 –  Porto

A welcome package with a bottle of wine, city map, and any other touristic information that we deem you may find useful will be waiting for you upon your arrival at your first hotel on your trip. Meet your driver for a private airport transfer. For your added comfort, we will have an English-speaking assistant waiting for you outside the customs with a sign with your name on it. Your representative will help you to coordinate meeting up with your private driver and accompany you to your accommodation.

Day 3 –  Porto

Quinta da Aveleda is Portugal’s largest Vinho Verde exporter. The history of this wine estate is lost in time, but there are countless records of it after the 16th century. The first bottled wine sale records date back to 1870. A trip to Quinta da Aveleda is much more than a visit to the beautiful vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see at a technologically advanced winery which produces one of the best sold Vinhos Verdes worldwide. To enter Aveleda is to make a journey back in time of the traditional Minho families who lived in the region’s typical manor houses. In the gardens one can enjoy rich and exotic flora and, in the area, devoted to agriculture, the old kitchen, the coach house and the threshing floor are the most important constructions. There are also romantic style buildings among which stand out the House of Reboleira (whose window is a National Monument), the Tea House and the Four Sisters Fountain. A visit into the cellar allows one to witness the Aveleda bottling process. The tour ends with a wine tasting and tasting of cheese produced in the artisanal cheese dairy of the farm, and a traditional lunch at the property.

• tasting: 3 special wines + cheese + accompaniments • superior meal: starter + main course + dessert + 3 wines + water + coffee/tea

Enjoy the views as you are driven through a picturesque valley followed by a stop in Régua to take a walk along the riverside. From here, you’ll get to visit the renowned train station in Pinhão. Visit a Port Wine farm to learn more about this drink synonymous with Portugal. Along the way you stop at two local wineries; Quinta da Pacheca visit, and Quinta do Seixo, each offering you the opportunity to try some different local wines. A locally inspired lunch is included at one of the wineries, or weather permitting a picnic can be arranged.

Here you will enjoy a lunch provided by the quinta which will include regional delicacies, wine and dessert.

Please let your destination expert know if you would like us to make recommendations. The Ribera del Duero wine region consists of 247 vineyards (Bodegas), which produce 68 million liters of wine annually. Ribera del Duero is one of the most important and interesting wine producing regions of Spain. Located just an hour and a half north / northwest of Madrid (like Napa Valley from San Francisco), and an hour south / southwest of the overlooked, but wonderful provincial capital of Burgos, the Ribera del Duero is the most prestigious wine region within easy reach of the Spain’s capital city. Ribera del Duero is a Spanish wine-making region and Denominación de Origen (DO) on the country’s northern plateau and is one of five wine regions within the autonomous community of Castile and León.

Accommodation: Barcelo Torre de Madrid (B) (Deluxe)

Day 9 – Madrid

Departing with a private guide and driver, enjoy a half-day tour that will take you through Madrid’s oldest quarters, tracing the legacy of the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties. Admire the many churches, convents, inns, palaces, theaters, narrow medieval streets and traditional shops, all steeped in history that no visitor should miss. Discover the city’s key sights like the Habsburg-era Puerta del Sol, renowned as the bustling heart of Madrid since the 17th century, and Plaza Mayor, a porticoed square that will take you back to the times of swashbuckling swordsmen and medieval rogues. Scamper through the Arco and Calle Cuchilleros where you’ll find centuries old taverns dug into caves under the square, and the Plaza de la Villa with excellent examples of Spanish architecture. Marvel at the impressive Bourbon-era Royal Palace, the largest in Western Europe, as well as the Teatro Real (Madrid’s opera house), the Prado Museum, the triumphal arch, and the city’s beautiful fountains of Neptuno and Cibeles. This evening transfer to your flamenco venue. Without a doubt, experience the best flamenco in Spain. The quality of its artists has always been the focus of this legendary place during its more than 50 years of life. Now, its owners embark on a new quest: to become the best restaurant in town. Their kitchen is home to a young chef, already recognized with a Michelin star in his previous restaurant. The experience we propose is therefore double, or rather, triple: on the one hand, enjoy a surprising and wonderful tasting menu with the best creations of the young chef; On the other hand, we are going to pair the menu with the best wines in Spain: you can choose between conventional wines, or even better, with sherry wines, of which the owner of the establishment is an expert, with more than 400 references in his premises. And finally, you will enjoy the flamenco show from a prime table.

Accommodation: Barcelo Torre de Madrid (B) (Deluxe)

Day 10 – Madrid

Setting out on foot for three hours with a private guide, you’ll visit the bars that are innovating and leaving a mark on Madrid’s tapas scene. Whether it be through using new techniques, incorporating new or forgotten ingredients, or by taking inspiration in cuisines from around the world, the gastronomic culture in Spain, and Madrid, is always evolving. You’ll visit three restaurants, and within each you’ll be treated to a drink and tapas. The restaurants included in this tour are aiming for the unexpected; they are looking to surprise their guest by presenting a classical dish and putting their own twist to it. Dig in!

Accommodation: Barcelo Torre de Madrid (B) (Deluxe)

Day 11 – International Flight

After check-out, your driver will take the group back to the airport.
